Arts in Margate

I’ve come to realise what an active arts community there is here in Margate. Sculptors, photographers, fine artists, community projects, performing artists, events….  I can really imagine that in a few years it will be a real hub for the arts. Studio spaces are being developed left , right and centre. Apparently a lot of artists are being displaced from London because of the Olympic development – I hope some of them come here. It is a great place to live and work, and be surrounded by a creative community – and it’s cheap. The locals continually whinge about what the Turner Contemporary will do for them. I’ll tell you. It will put Margate on the map and visitors will realise what a brilliant place it is to visit, live and spend their money!  It will also flag up Margate as an artistic centre which will attract more artists. Before we know it we will have a town full of studios and galleries. Fantastic!
